i would like to
thank everyone
for coming out
to this night of spoken word poetry.
i am so happy
everyone
in the local arts community that could make it
has come out
tonight.
i hope
to see all of you again.
as we all know,
poetry,
music,
any form of art,
but especially my poetry and my music,
enriches your life.
just think of how much worse your life would be if you did not have poetry
to enrich it.
even when i am out on tour with my band,
alfred, brooke, and my ballsac,
i promote our city.
i let everyone know that we would not be,
alfred, brooke, and my ballsac,
if not for our city
and our local scene.
i can remember
when we were just starting out
no one knew
alfred, brooke, and my ballsac
there were still a few people at our shows.
those people
were you.
and you came to our shows
because we went to
your openings,
your readings,
your parties.
we acted as though we were really interested in your work
we really are only interested in our own
though we like to think that we are civilized
we are really only into this whole
society thing
to the extent that it benefits us.
so no one dare says anything
about self-indulgence.
nor will anyone speak the truth
of their own opinions.
for anything anyone else does in town
is good.
for if their work is really bad
it is impolite to say.
for if their work is really good
i will only be jealous
that i did not do that work first.
but everyone has to start somewhere,
right?
so here we are.
here at this spoken word night
networking
promoting ourselves
to ourselves
by ourselves
until some stranger
with a lot of money
invests in us enough
to where we no longer have to live off of each other.
i must thank all of you for paying
to make alfred, brooke, and my ballsac
a success.
that i succeeded lets me know
this local scene
really has got something going for it.
so here i am
blessing you with my presence
and my work.
on display.
and for sale.
still,
for even though i made it out of this scene
you are all still potential customers.
and i deserve
to be paid for all of the
networking
i have done to get to this point.
so here you are
only listening to me because i am
the queen
of the scene.
